EligibilityPatients are eligible for hospice services if their doctor certifies they have a prognosis of six months or less if the disease follows its natural course. However, a patient may continue to stay on hospice service longer than that if the patient still meets eligibility requirements. Patient charts are routinely reviewed by the medical team to ensure eligibility. If you are uncertain if a patient qualifies for hospice, we are happy to provide an informational visit.
Hospice care takes place wherever the need exists, be it a person’s home, a long-term care facility, a hospital or an inpatient hospice unit.
Hospice is serious medicine and offers state-of-the-art palliative (comfort) care, using advanced technologies and specialized training to prevent or alleviate distressing symptoms.
Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurance companies cover the cost of hospice services. As a non-profit agency, NorthCare Hospice & Palliative Care provides services regardless of a patient’s ability to pay.
