Brief History of NorthCare Hospice & Palliative Care

·        Incorporated by Barr Home Health, originally named Barr Hospice & Palliative Care on September 20, 1996.

·        Medicare certification achieved on January 12, 1997.

·        Original location on Cerner campus across from North Kansas City Hospital, then moved to location near I-435 and Front Street.

·        May 1998 purchased by North Kansas City Hospital.  Name changed to NorthCare Hospice & Palliative Care.

·        In 2000 moved to current location on North Kansas City Hospital campus.

·        Cardiac Hospice Program launched in September 2001.

·        Received the program of the year award from the Missouri Hospice and Palliative Care Association in 2002 for our Cardiac Program.

·        Division into 2 geographical teams (Red and Blue teams) in 2002 due to rapid growth.  Staff and census more than doubled in 2002.

·        Added a third geographical team (Green team) in 2003.

·        Began instituting complementary therapy programs in 2003.  NorthCare Hospice & Palliative Care currently provides music, massage, humor and pet therapy services.

·        Created a specialized program of care for ALS patients in 2004.

·        Created the volunteer run Lifetime Legacy video project in 2004, which won program of the year award through the Missouri Hospice and Palliative Care Association.

·        Tenth Anniversary in October 2006.

·      Not for Profit status was achieved on January 1, 2006.
